South East Water
South East Water supplies drinking water to 2.1 million customers in Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire.
South East Water merged with Mid Kent Water in December 2007 to bring together two key water companies in the South East of England into one company. Previously both companies were active supporters and encouraged their staff and customers to support WaterAid in a variety of ways.
South East Water involves its customers in addressing the fundamental need of water for life, by funding WaterAid's annual appeal, enclosed in customers' account statements. Since the beginning of the Customer Campaign, South East Water has recruited over 1,500 individual supporters for WaterAid and given over £384,000 to WaterAid. That's enough to help over 25,000 people to gain access to safe, clean water and sanitation.
Staff at South East Water have been active in raising WaterAid's profile in the region through community talks and media coverage in relation to the supporters trip, which enables a staff supporter to visit a WaterAid project. Staff and suppliers have also raised funds through innovative events such as 'design a toilet seat' competitions, a charity golf day and mobile phone recycling.
As a direct result of this tremendous effort they provide the means for communities in Africa and Asia to gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education.
