Yorkshire Water
In the last decade Yorkshire Water employees and customers have raised a whopping £3 million for WaterAid. The annual customer appeal alone raised over £237,803 since 2001 and there are several major fundraising events each year. Yorkshire Water is proud to have this association and to have made a real difference to thousands of lives. The WaterAid committee at Yorkshire Water works hard to produce a wide ranging annual calendar of fundraising events. In 2005 a glamorous ball held in the National Railway Museum in York raised over £58, 000. Other annual events include a golf day, an 'It's a knockout' tournament, fishing competitions and Water Aware week. Water Aware Week is an extravaganza of fundraising and awareness raising activity centred on World Water Day on the 22nd March. 2006 is the tenth anniversary of the 6 Peaks Challenge, a unique event that challenges teams to climb the highest peaks in the six regions of the British Isles in 72 hours. The challenge is organised by Yorkshire Water employees and supported by the company and their contractors. For more information about the challenge please visit www.wateraid6peakschallenge.org.uk. The annual competition is organised each year by a small team at Yorkshire Water for their service partners, and has grown in size and popularity steadily over the years; this year all 32 teams had signed up within weeks. There will be a challenging course at Aughton in York as well as Hit the Green, the Longest Drive, Nearest the Pin challenges and Putting and Chipping competitions. Then the players will spend a full day engrossed in golf, whilst raising money for a excellent cause. Last year's competition raised over £13,000 and so the organisers are praying for good weather and for people to be as generous as last year!
