The Venice Festival of Media brings together delegates from around the globe to examine issues at the forefront of the media and communications industry. 2008 saw the festival officially partner WaterAid as the event's first charity beneficiary.

The festival provided delegates from the world's advertisers, media agency networks, content developers and media owners with access to insights from over 100 top level speakers, split into more than 20 sessions.

For WaterAid, the Venice Festival of Media was a great opportunity to develop awareness amongst guest speakers and delegates through WaterAid films, crew uniforms, delegate packs and displays, which all built up to the grand finale gala dinner. Here delegates, speakers and sponsors donated generously to WaterAid's vital work in Madagascar, helping some of the world's poorest people gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education.

As the backdrop to the event, Venice - the city on the water - is a fitting place to highlight the fact that roughly one in six people in the world does not have access to safe water and two fifths of the world's population does not have access to adequate sanitation. Together, the Venice Festival of Media and WaterAid are working towards changing this.
