MWH is one of the world's largest providers of water, environmental infrastructure and energy services.

Craig McMaster, Operations Director (UK North and Ireland) explains "In the UK and Australia, MWH and our employees have decided to focus a significant part of our charitable efforts and corporate giving on WaterAid.

"As a company we are committed to building a better world. We recognise that this is achieved not only through delivering on our commitments to clients but also through our involvement in the community. Our statement of purpose reinforces this:

"To better the lives of those we touch by providing our employees intriguing challenges and the tools to solve them; by thrilling many client partners and pleasing all of them; and by improving our communities around the world through our work and voluntary contributions.

"As a premier consultant to the UK water industry, we are passionate about improving public health and the environment by enhancing our clients' water and wastewater assets. We attract staff with the same passion and we realise that for many this means supporting the challenge of overcoming problems caused by a lack of access to safe water and sanitation for millions around the globe.

"In the light of our combined passion for these issues and our commitments as a company, our support for WaterAid is a natural choice."

Spring 2010: MWH Walk for Water - 10,000 steps a day

April 2010 saw the launch of the inaugural 'MWH Walk for Water - 10,000 steps a day' initiative, promoted as part of MWH's commitment to fundraise for WaterAid and encourage more active and healthy staff.

Over 60 people participated in the event, aiming to walk a target of 10,000 steps (approximately 5 miles) a day every day throughout the month of April to raise awareness of the long distances that women and children in developing countries walk every day to collect water.

In return for a small registration fee, each participant received their very own pedometer to keep a track of their steps and pledged to raise £50. Collectively the participants walked a total of over 18 million steps or 9,000 miles, equivalent to 1/3 way around the earth's equator raising over £5,000.
