Why support WaterAid?

WaterAid is an international charity whose mission is to overcome poverty by enabling the world's poorest people to gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education.

There are literally billions of people that need our help; the statistics are truly shocking:

  • Before the well was installed I had to go to the river at least three times a day for water. Each trip would take an hour to scoop and wait your turn, so three hours a day was spent just collecting water
Your participation in the challenge will help people like Adana Haruna, a mother of six who lives in Nigeria: "Before the well was installed I had to go to the river at least three times a day for water. 884 million people in the world do not have access to safe water. This is roughly one in eight of the world's population.
  • 2.5 billion people in the world do not have access to adequate sanitation - almost two fifths of the world's population
  • 1.8 million children die every year as a result of diseases caused by unclean water and poor sanitation, amounting to around 5,000 deaths a day

By participating in the Cisco Euro Challenge, not only will you embark on a life-changing experience yourself, but you will help change the lives of some of the world's poorest people.
