The WaterAid Trail100 Challenge, which took place on June 7, looks set to raise over £200,000 for WaterAid.

The Challenge, put together by WaterAid and Trail magazine, aimed to put a team of walkers on 100 of the very best hills and mountains across the UK.

The Challenge was just five mountains away from being completed. On the day there were over 2000 walkers on top of 95 peaks - quite an achievement!

WaterAid's Trail100 Coordinator Fran Critchley commented: "For the first time, WaterAid has teamed up with a media partner and has been delighted to receive such a high level of support. The partnership with Trail magazine has enabled WaterAid to reach out to a completely new audience. We hope that many new people who have come to WaterAid through Trail will stay with us and be long-term supporters."

Matt Swaine, editor of Trail magazine, was thrilled about the level of enthusiasm for WaterAid, which was clearly demonstrated by his readers' response to the Trail 100 event.

Matt said: "Trail would like to congratulate WaterAid on raising such a terrific amount of money with this year's Challenge. We are immensely impressed with WaterAid's work to combat poverty through securing safe water supplies, toilets and hygiene for the world's poorest people. We look forward to supporting their work again in the future. Congratulations to all of those who took part."

A Berghaus jacket is just one of the prizes in the photo competitionThose who took part are also in with a chance of winning some fantastic new season Berghaus gear, including the jacket pictured, by entering their mountain photos and stories onto Trail's website www.livefortheoutdoors.com. The deadline to enter the competition is 4 July.

If you took part and have not finished collecting your sponsorship, please get collecting! It's still not too late to set up an online giving page at Justgiving.com.

And don’t forget to look out for next year’s Challenge!
