Great fundraising ideas

eBay for Charities
eBay for Charities is an addition to the popular eBay web site that enables sellers to give some or all of their sale proceeds to charities. While listing an item on eBay you can choose to donate a percentage, or all, of your item's final selling price to WaterAid. Your item will feature a charity ribbon, charity name and the percentage you are donating so that buyers know that they are supporting WaterAid.
Happy selling! www.ebay.co.uk/ebay-for-charity

Quiz night
Hold a general knowledge quiz in your local pub and charge a fee for each individual to take part. Perfect for Autumn and Winter evenings.

Car boot sale
Vendors hire a patch in your car park/field (charge £10-£15 for the day). They then keep the profit from any items that they sell (or they could donate it!)

Jumble / bring and buy sale
Decorate the hall in a watery theme and then sell, sell, sell.

Fete/open day
Schools, village halls, greens, or anywhere where there is a big space make ideal locations for an event of this kind. You can charge a small entrance fee or donate the profits from the stalls.

Church collection
Donate the proceeds of your church collection to WaterAid.  Ask us for our Church Harvest pack, available from July to October every year.

Cake sale
Have a cake sale at break-time or at one of your meetings.

Carol singing
Either in your town centre or door to door - you may need a permit for this event.

Stage a performance of Aladdin and the Magic Bucket - the WaterAid pantomime
Ask us for a pantomime pack, which includes a script, songs, costume and set suggestions and a pantomime poster.

It's a knockout
This type of event can be held at swimming pools or a park. You can have a day-long competition and invite local sports teams or company teams as participants, and then get a local celebrity along to present the prizes.

River of pennies
Ask people to place coins in a snaking line around a playground, car park or hall and give a prize to the person who guesses how many coins this will take, then send the money to WaterAid!

Toy duck races
You'll need a few hundred numbered plastic ducks. Then get people to sponsor a duck at £1 a go and give them a note of their duck's number. On the race day set all the ducks loose on the river and watch them race to the finish line. Be sure to catch them again though!

Canoe, boat, raft, windsurfing races or marathons
Get local sports groups to have a grand race in aid of WaterAid.

Blue cocktail party
Choose your blue cocktails and then dress in blue or watery costumes and maybe even have a blue venue to add to the effect.

Themed banquets, lunches, tea parties or picnics
Choose seasonal themes such as Burns Night, Christmas or country themes and tailor the menu accordingly. Arrange the meal in a hotel or restaurant and sell tickets at a profit or take over a canteen or village hall and do the catering yourselves.

Car-washing or washing windscreens
You'll need a team of willing helpers, a car park, a ready supply of water, equipment and some good publicity. Make sure you give your younger washers a bit of training to avoid any damage to cars. Bring a vacuum cleaner and charge extra for an inside clean too.

Auction of promises
Instead of goods, promises of people's time, labour and talents are auctioned off to the highest bidder - this event is designed to be entertaining as well as lucrative.

Garden or village open day
Persuade a dozen or more people in your village to open their gardens and have a village open day or weekend. Issue a map with the gardens marked on it and sell tickets which can be checked as people move from garden to garden. If possible open the village hall as a tea room for the day and sell drinks and snacks.

Welly disco
Find a venue such as a school or church hall, line up your favourite tunes and charge people an entry fee to come to your disco - in their wellies!  Sounds silly, but it's lots of fun.

Non-uniform or dress down day
Get permission from your teacher or boss to hold a special dress down day when everyone can wear whatever they want to school or work - in return for a donation to WaterAid.

Sponsored swim marathon or Boxing Day swim in the sea
Contact local youth groups, sports clubs, schools  and businesses to provide teams or sponsor the event. Invite a local celebrity along too if you can.

Sponsored walk or run
Good, interesting routes of varying lengths are important - a lake or a reservoir will make the link with WaterAid. Participants could be sponsored extra to carry water with them as women and children have to where WaterAid works

Sponsored detox
Feeling sluggish after Christmas? Try getting your friends or colleagues to sponsor you to give up smoking or drinking.

Race nights or casino nights
This should be a private event: sell tickets for the evening in advance to members of your club only. Sell chips on the night which can be gambled and exchanged for prizes. Show videos of horse races, set up gaming tables and start taking bets.  Professional equipment can be hired for both of these events.

Raffles and tombolas
Raffles are an excellent way of raising funds, either as an activity in their own right, or to supplement another event. There are certain regulations you must adhere to though - so do follow the rules! For raffles held at events such as fetes, dinners or dances tickets may only be sold on the premises during the event, no more than £250 may be spent on prizes and no money prizes should be awarded.

If it isn's held at an event, raffles held by clubs, societies and schools may only take place with written authority from the society's governing body and tickets may only be sold on the society's premises. Additionally, if clubs are set up specifically to raise money for WaterAid any raffles they hold must be registered with the local district council.
