24 May to 31 May 2010

Raise money for WaterAid by taking part in the exciting and exhilarating Namibia Marathon - a 42km endurance test for marathon runners.

The route starts at the foot of the Brandberg Mountain range and will take you into the northern Namibian Desert, the oldest desert in the world and the largest and most remote National Park in Africa.

Not only will you have to overcome the battles of the terrain in Namibia, where in parts you will be running on firm but stony tracks, and deal with the weather as temperatures are expected to in the region of min 5ºc / max 35 ºc but it could possibly be more extreme, each participant will have to be completely self reliant.

Throughout the race each participant will need to carry their own food and equipment on their back, though water stations and medical tents will be provided at 20km intervals along the route.

Once you have completed the amazing feat of completing the marathon in 8 hours you will get the chance to explore Swakopmund (after a well deserved rest of course!), the surrounding area and the nearby Swakopmund dunes. After which you will have a celebratory meal to reflex on your achievements and swap stories of your adventure!

Visit the Across the Divide website to find out more information and details on how to take part.

The WaterAid events team will be able to provide full support with your training and fundraising including a marathon training guide, a WaterAid running vest and lots of fundraising tips and information.

Just £15 can enable one person to access safe water, improved hygiene and sanitation so every penny you raise will make a real difference to people’s lives.
