Volunteer as a speaker

We are looking for new speakers throughout the UK. You do not need previous public speaking experience, just a passion for WaterAid.
This is a really flexible voluntary role: you can give as few, or as many talks as you'd like, and we provide all the training, and travel expenses for attending training and going to talks too. Being a speaker is designed to fit around you! Joining the Speaker Network is a valuable way to support WaterAid. By giving up your time to raise awareness you will help us to transform more lives, and support others in their efforts to raise funds for WaterAid.
Becoming a speaker gives you the chance to develop your public speaking skills and confidence through formal training and experience. It gives you a chance to meet new people from your local community, and a way to learn more about international development and WaterAid's work.
For further information about becoming a speaker, please download the Volunteer speaker role description ( Word 226KB) or email speakers@wateraid.org.
Training
We are currently recruiting for speakers for training between September and December 2011. Training is being run in the following locations: Durham, Glasgow, Sheffield, Lincoln, Cheltenham, Birmingham and London.
All speakers must undertake a free one day training course before speaking on behalf of WaterAid. We run training sessions throughout the United Kingdom, lunch is included, and we can reimburse travel expenses as long as they are agreed with WaterAid beforehand, and you have a valid receipt. Resources will be provided prior to the date, don't feel you have to prepare anything, just take some time to familiarize yourself with these resources. Hopefully they will start to inspire you about speaking for WaterAid!
The training day includes:
- Information about WaterAid's key messages, including how and where we work
- Top tips for public speaking
- The chance to share good practice and ideas
- The chance to learn a variety of teaching methods and resources
- The chance to improve your confidence by practicing talking about WaterAid, receive feedback
- A chance to ask WaterAid's Community Fundraising Teams any challenging questions!
For information about upcoming training sessions, or to book on to one, please email speakers@wateraid.org.
There are also a number of other ways you can get involved in supporting WaterAid's work, such as joining a local fundraising group or looking around our Get Involved section.
