Decanter’s wine auction raises over £58,000 for WaterAid

Proceeds from this year’s event will be doubled by the UK Government, helping us reach thousands of mums and their families with safe water through our Deliver Life appeal.

Decanter’s annual wine auction has raised over £58,000 for WaterAid and our Deliver Life appeal this winter – a record-breaking amount. And there's still time to help raise even more money.

The auction, which took place on 12 November at Christie’s, marks ten years of our partnership with wine magazine Decanter, which is now read in over 90 countries.

And with an online auction running until 8 December, the total looks set to rise even further – helping us reach even more mums and their families around the world with the clean, safe water they need to deliver life safely.

The Decanter auction was held on 12 November at Christie's in London.

Decanter has been auctioning the wine from their annual World Wine Awards for WaterAid since 2004, raising more than £500,000 for our work to date.

This year, proceeds from the 79 lots sold at Christie’s and the online auction will go towards our biggest ever fundraising appeal: Deliver Life. And even better – the money raised from all of the bids from the UK will be doubled by the UK government.

Every day, a newborn baby dies from infection caused by a lack of safe water and an unclean environment – but it doesn’t have to be this way.

That’s why our Deliver Life appeal aims to reach 130,000 mums and their families around the world with safe water, so they can give their newborns a brighter start and a better future.

“It’s not right that expectant mothers should have to walk long distances to collect dirty water, and worry that the place in which they will give birth has no clean water or toilet facilities,” says Sarah Kemp, publishing director at Decanter.

“I am determined to raise as much money as we possibly can for this brilliant cause.”
