Happy birthday WaterAid!

17 July 2013 marks our 32nd birthday, so it's a good time to reflect on our progress to date.

17 Jul 2013

It is WaterAid's 32nd anniversary today and we wanted to write to say a huge thank you!

The contribution you make to our work means that a world where everyone, everywhere has access to safe water and sanitation is indeed a reachable goal.

Some of the UK highlights so far this year have been:

  • Ministers attending the Sanitation and Water for All High Level meeting last March in Washington pledged commitments to reach 300 million people with access to sanitation and 200 million with water
  • 1.7m people were able to access safe water (a 10% increase on last year) as a result of our investment in the work of our partners
  • 2.2m people were able to access improved sanitation (a 15% increase on last year)
  • We launched our vision for the post-2015 era with our Everyone, everywhere report
  • Fantastic fundraising eventshave taken place across the UK, from WaterAid200 to Sing for Water
  • An amazing Glastonbury Festival, with over 35,000 festival-goers supporting our Pump up the volume campaign
  • Our Hygiene framework was launched, promoting a clear understanding of hygiene promotion
  • WaterAid international has developed, with a representative being appointed in Japan and WaterCan in Canada recently becoming our newest member

Thank you very much for all that we have achieved together this year.

And, just for fun, here are a few other people celebrating a birthday today; happy birthday to them too:
