Tracking commitments
WaterAid regularly produces 'traffic lights' papers which aim to track governments' progress in taking the necessary steps to address the sanitation crisis, including mobilizing adequate financing and establishing effective institutions. These papers have been produced since 2008 in collaboration with agencies such as UNICEF and the World Bank's Water and Sanitation Programme (WSP). They have been adopted as the official mechanism for tracking progress of commitments made at sanitation conferences in Africa (AfricaSan) and South Asia (SACOSAN) and they also act as an accountability mechanism. WaterAid has also recently launched www.WASHwatch.org which is essentially an online version of these traffic lights papers. It monitors government policy commitments and budgets for WASH, allows for real-time analysis and takes a collaborative, open-access approach. AfricaSan traffic lights 2011
