Ama Ermelinda doesn’t remember how old she is. But she knows she lost her husband five years ago, and she’s been collecting river water all by herself ever since.

Ama Ermalinda lives in the mountains. She collects water from the river in the valley. She climbs uphill, on a narrow and slippery path, through the dust, carrying four jerry cans filled with water – two in a woven bag with the strap strung from her head.

"If I cannot collect the water and I have no water at home this is not good for me. You know that I am alone, so I need to be looking for food, for water… It’s difficult for me.”
