Healthcare workers pushed to their limits.

All over the world, healthcare workers like Yaye are treating patients without running water. Even in the face of COVID-19, there is no way for him to wash his hands to protect himself using the methods we all know are critical to slow the spread and save lives.

Unfortunately, Yaye is not alone.

Yaye puts his own health at risk every day “I know I can easily get infected here - I actually had scabies, which I got from treating a patient with scabies. Using dirty water often causes this.”

It’s frustrating - and terrifying - for nurses trained to understand disease, yet unable to stop it. Nurse Patricia (pictured below) tells us

Nurse Patricia
"Water is priceless in hospitals…In the maternity ward, having no water means women will have no water to clean themselves after giving birth. In such cases, sepsis and other infections can become common. So, a hospital needs clean water for it to function as intended, otherwise, people can come here with minor infections but go back home having contracted other serious diseases."

– Nurse Patricia

We know how simple the solution to this nightmare is. Clean safe water. Water that helps stop the spread of disease for both patients and healthcare workers like Yaye and Patricia, when they are most vulnerable.

Our mission is to transform the lives of the poorest and most marginalised people by improving access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene.

How you can help deliver clean water…

Your regular donation is so important in a community like Frat and other places where we work, because being able to rely on support means we can commit to delivering long-term impact. While installing taps and toilets is critical, we’ve also seen in Frat and around the world, that advocacy maintenance training, and hygiene education will help bring sustainable changes that last!

When you join us as a WaterAid supporter you will receive:

  • A welcome pack explaining how your donation will make a difference to the lives of some of the world’s poorest people.

  • Updates on WaterAid’s work through Oasis magazine posted to you twice per year and a monthly e-news which contains report backs on communities and families reached with the help of your support. You will also receive news from the field and updates from families benefiting from your gift.

  • All donations $2 and over are 100% tax deductable.

  • An annual tax receipt in July.

Your monthly gift will help ensure more health care workers and their patients are reached with desperately needed clean water and hygiene facilities.

For any enquiries or to set up a regular gift via direct debit, please contact our Supporter Services team on 1300 858 022 or email [email protected]

WaterAid has teams in 28 countries across the world, working with our partners to transform millions of lives every year by improving access to clean water, toilets and hygiene.

Since 1981, we’ve reached over 27 million people with clean water. But we can’t stop there.

In the last 39 years, we’ve gone from strength to strength to become one of the most respected organisations dealing solely with water, sanitation and hygiene issues.

While installing taps and toilets is essential to our work, we do so much more. We convince governments to change laws, link policy makers with people on the ground, pool knowledge and resources and rally support from people and organisations around the world, making lasting change happen on a massive scale.

Regular gifts by direct debit give us a predictable income so we can commit to helping more people. Plus direct debits mean we pay less in processing fees than for credit card gifts.

We’ll use your donations to transform lives in the best way we can. 74.6% is spent enabling people to transform their lives with safe water, decent toilets and good hygiene, 14.8% is spent on fundraising and 10.6% is spent on accountability and administration costs (which include bank fees and regulatory costs).
