About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Finance and IT, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing, maintaining and improving financial and transactional accounting at WaterAid. Supervising one staff member, the Senior Accountant will ensure the timely and accurate completion of account reconciliations and the best practice management of transactional finance systems and processes.

The Senior Accountant will provide leadership and support to the Director of Finance and IT to maintain and improve financial systems. An enthusiastic influence on team culture, the Senior Accountant will seek to positively identify opportunities to improve organisational systems and financial support processes.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Essential

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in accounting/finance
  • Demonstrated experience providing financial and transactional accounting services within small to medium sized organisations
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing accounts receivable, accounts payable, financial reporting, budget monitoring, payroll, month-end processes and reconciling balance sheet accounts
  • Staff supervision experience

Education

  • Degree in commerce (accounting) or equivalent

Knowledge and skills

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills
  • Strong approach to internal controls and systems improvement
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills – especially Excel
