Dhaka University wins inter-university competition #Action4WASH, held under the HSBC Water Programme

As part of a continued partnership between WaterAid and HSBC, #Action4WASH is a photography/filming competition which begun in November 2019 under the HSBC Water Programme banner and was held between ‘Team Viewfinder’ from the Department of Television, Film and Photography of Dhaka University and ‘Team Prottyasha’ from the Department of Media Studies and Journalism of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB).

Out of five participating teams, Team Viewfinder and Team Prottyasha won the semi-finalist positions based on their strong storyline, previous filming experience on development-related issues, and exceptional team composition. Following a one-week hands-on field experience, both teams prepared their films which were premiered infront of a seven-member jury at the EMK Center in Dhanmondi. The hour-long event unfolded the film in front of enthusiasts from both universities, HSBC Bangladesh, WaterAid, and key actors from academia, private sector and the development sector.

The competition was won by Team Viewfinder from Dhaka University resulting to their remarkable documentary titled ‘Shashmul’, portraying the water, sanitation and hygiene challenges that the Munda community of Shyamnagar, Sarkhira faced and the changes that have now been brought about in their lives due to the interventions of the HSBC Water Programme. The winning team was awarded with a winning prize of BDT 100,000 for their hard work, dedication and enthusiasm throughout the competition.

This initiative is one amongst the many youth engagement activities WaterAid is currently carrying out. The potential of youth can bring solutions to dire crisis in WASH, and opportunities like this seek their participation and active role to help build viable change in order to achieve the sustainable global goals.
