WaterAid participates at the 5th Gobeshona Annual Conference for Research on Climate Change in Bangladesh!

At the four-day conference, the first three days hosted a platform for national and international researchers to share their experiences on climate practicalities, researches and practices in Bangladesh, leading to the final day dedicated for Science Policy Dialogue.

The hour-long session at the conference threw light on various climate related discussions, mainly focusing on the need for local communities to raise voice on their rights to safe drinking water in climate vulnerable areas so that change is brought upon on a local and national level, saving our ponds as a source of drinking water for people residing in climate expanses, the importance and practice of rainwater harvesting as a sustainable and low cost technical solution, and developing water security plans at community levels to ensure year-round safe water in climatic parts of the country.

At the end of the presentations, the session closed with people contesting to ask questions in the Q/A round, and a lot of intensive debating between panelists and the audience – all for the good cause of empowering people to fight for themselves and their own communities!

Present at the conference as our lead panelist was Dr Ainun Nishat, Professor Emeritus, BRAC University. The two other guests accompanying him on the panel included Dr Sultan Ahmed, Director General from the Department of Environment, Ministry of Environment and Forest and Md Liakath Ali, Director of Programmes and Policy Advocacy, WaterAid Bangladesh.
