WaterAid is a global organisation, working for over 30 years now in changing lives for the betterment in 34 countries around the world. We work to offer clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene to underprivileged people globally, through convincing the governments to change laws, linking policy makers with people on the ground, pooling knowledge and resources, and rallying support from people and organisations from different corners of the world – altogether making lasting change happen on a massive scale. Currently WaterAid is looking for a dynamic, committed and self-driven individual for the role of ‘Programme Officer’ for our country office in Bangladesh to support the Urban Team with smooth implementation of its projects.

The selected person will be responsible for progress analysis, documentation and reporting of multiple projets under Urban WASH programme. S/he will also be reponsible for coordinating with multiple internal departments and sharing project updates with external organisations such as donors, various stakeholders including City Corporations, WASA and Bangladesh Railway.  

Key Responsibilities:

As a member of the programme team, this role will take the responsibility and contribute to (but not necessarily limited into):

•    Play an active role in achieving objectives, strengthening process and progress monitoring of assigned projects.
•    Assist the Project Management team in creating linkages between WASH, livelihoods and financial institutions for addressing climate induced vulnerabilities facing urban slum dwellers. 
•    Support the team and partner for developing various guidelines related to project implementation and capacity development of implementing partners.
•    Actively engage in formulating strategies, suggest innovations for improving quality of services at project locations, making the interventions inclusive and gender friendly.
•    Assist the team in furnishing the business plan for Public Toilets including efficient contractual arrangements, cost recovery and operational modalities.
•    Support knowledge activities such as capturing, documenting, and sharing project learning.
•    Support programmes and projects with planning, budgeting, developing and implementing in line with WaterAid’s mission, vision, values and principles.
•    Monitor progress, process and quality of project interventions and take necessary corrective measures throughout the project cycle to support partners and project management team.
•    Continuous review of the progress of project interventions against plan, identify loopholes, provide appropriate feedback & support to ensure smooth and effective implementation of the projects.
•    Coordinate with other teams of WaterAid angladesh to ensure necessary support to the partner organisations on their needs. 
•    Facilitate in piloting interventions, activity design, situation analysis etc. and share best practices/disseminate learning and contribute in knowledge management of the organisation

Requisite qualifications and experience:

•    Master’s degree preferably in Social Science/Business Studies discipline, or relevant subject 
•    Minimum 03 years of work experience in the relevant field with a reputed national/international NGO 
•    Knowledge on multi-sectoral engagements, especially creating business and financial linkages while designing and implementing development interventions for urban slum dwellers. Prior experience of working in microfinance institutions will be an advantage
•    Experience in developing training curriculum/module, materials on behaviour change and capacity building issues, and ability to organise and facilitate capacity building events for partner staffs and other stakeholders
•    Experience or good understanding of programme monitoring and evaluation 
•    Aptitude for innovation, to identify and explore new methods of working
•    Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to produce outputs within tight deadlines in a very busy environment
•    Excellent presentation and communications skills both in Bangla & in English
•    Strong professional writing skill
•    Adequate computer skills on MS Office and other software application
•    High level of pro-activeness and creativity, self-motivated and positive attitude to work in a team approach 
•    Demonstrate respect for gender, diversity, organisational culture, promote safeguarding and uphold organisational values 
•    Demonstrated interest in and awareness of issues related to the development and social justice 
•    Ready to undertake extensive field visits outside Dhaka

Work Role:

Reportable to: Manager- Urban Sanitation Services
Working hours: Full time (minimum 37.5 hours per week)
Work station: Dhaka, Bangladesh
Contract tenure: Initially 02 years, with a possibility of extension
Salary & benefits: Monthly gross salary is BDT 58,790, higher salary may be offered to the deserving candidates corresponding to higher skill, competencies and experiences; In addition to above, other benefits include provident fund, gratuity, festival bonus, life insurance for self, hospitalisation insurance scheme for self, spouse and children, cell phone allowances etc.
