Sanitation Safety Plan
WaterAid Bangladesh is at the forefront of ensuring safe sanitation practices throughout Bangladesh. Our recently published Sanitation Safety Plan (SSP) takes a comprehensive approach, identifying risks at every stage of the sanitation chain, from household toilets to waste disposal. This plan doesn't just diagnose problems; it prescribes solutions. Public awareness campaigns educate communities on safe waste disposal, while a push for mechanical emptying aims to eliminate the health risks of manual desludging for sanitation workers. Worker safety is further emphasized through training programs and routine equipment maintenance. The SSP's collaborative approach, involving municipalities, service providers, and communities, ensures interventions are tailored to local needs and have lasting impact. The success of the pilot program in Sakhipur Municipality demonstrates the plan's potential to be a valuable model for Bangladesh's journey towards a healthier and more sustainable sanitation system.
