Role Brief

WaterAid Bangladesh is an international not-for-profit organization, determined to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere within a generation and is looking for a committed, passionate and highly self-driven person for the position of:‘Research Manager’.

WaterAid aims to bring clean water, safe toilets and good hygiene to everyone, everywhere by 2030, with communities, partners and government and there’s a need for something big to happen in our world to bring the changes; and research is one of the key drives to facilitate such change! The Research Manager, being a member of the Learning Team of WaterAid Bangladesh, will manage overall research portfolio of the organization which includes promotion of quality research, development of research proposal for fundraising, collaboration with potential research organization, identifying research needs and priorities, leading on research outsourcing, scrutinize research proposal with special focus on research methodology, coordinate with external consultants on out-sourced research, initiate in-house research activities including baseline and endline studies etc. The position will build up and maintain research capacity of the organization and undertake inhouse research activities to meet organization’s strategic plan and feed senior management in decision making. This position will uphold WaterAid Bangladesh and its reputation as an effective learning orgaisation in the sector and across WaterAid families.

Qualifications Required

Education, Experience and Knowledge:

  • Masters or equivalent degree preferably in Economics, Statistics, Anthropology, and Sociology from any recognized institution. Ph.D. and foreign University degree is preferred. 

  • Minimum 08 (eight) years of work experience in the field of research of which at least 03 (three) years in the senior position or in any international organisation. This is flexible for the applicants having Ph.D. 

  • Publication of 3-5 articles in peer reviewed journals and good number of monographs and reports as the lead author.

  • Good command on research methodology, statistical inference and application of participatory tools and techniques.

  • Experience and understanding of the issues related to water, sanitation and hygiene in national and global context.

  • Experience to customise and share research findings with different audiences including community people, development actors, government officials, donors, researchers and academicians.

Skills: 

  • Innovate new ways of working and allure support and cooperation from other teams and colleagues.

  • Excellent analytical ability

  • IT skills on the use of computer software specially on those related to online survey, data base management, and commonly used Microsoft applications.

  • Skills on the use of SPSS and other computer software for data analysis will be an added advantage.

  • Excellent public presentation and oral communication skills both in Bangla and English with outstanding writing skills in English.

  • Excellent facilitation skills 

Competencies: 

  • Self-motivated and able to work to a high standard with minimal supervision

  • Organised and good problem- solving skill, capable of working under pressure and juggling with multiple priorities

  • Good team spirit and interpersonal skills; should be able to draw confidence and support from others and capacity to understand and work with people with multiple background 

  • Personal integrity, decision making ability, proactiveness and respect for others, gender and organizational cultural.

Work Description

Reportable to: Director-Fundraising and Learning

Work station: Dhaka, Bangladesh

Working hours: Full time (05 days a week with minimum 37.5 hours per week)
