WaterAid Ethiopia has provided nearly 2.5 million Birr to support the Government’s initiative to strengthen the response against the COVID-19 epidemic, donating funds to the Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy.

The international charity offered 50 water tanks with 5,000 litres capacity, 2,500 litres of hand sanitiser and over 1,000 bars of laundry soap to be distributed to health centres and temporary COVID-19 treatment sites within Addis Ababa.

It has also produced a best-practice hygiene promotion video and audio adverts to be broadcasted over primetime programmes on EBC, FBC and EBS television channels.

The hygiene promotion campaign is intended to show the public how to establish good handwashing and respiratory hygiene habits to help protect themselves during the pandemic. This campaign cost WaterAid Ethiopia nearly one million Birr.

As a leading water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) focused international non-governmental organisation operating in Ethiopia, WaterAid Ethiopia is committed to providing the necessary materials for handwashing and sanitation to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The organisation will continue to deliver much-needed support as it secures more funding during the pandemic, focusing particularly on the shortage of logistics in health institutions to safely provide medical help to COVID-19 patients.
