With BA Continuum India Private Limited, we work to ensure clean water, decent toilets, and good hygiene in slums, anganwadi centres and schools in Hyderabad and Delhi.

Our partnership

In Hyderabad, we aim to create replicable examples of community managed safe drinking water facilities, access to decent toilets, and practice of hygiene behaviour. The year-long project is underway in seven slum communities. With a holistic approach, the project also addresses the need of these three essentials in schools and anganwadi centres (day-care centres with children, pregnant and lactating mothers) in the periphery of these communities.

In Delhi, the partnership is focussed to create replicable examples of community managed clean drinking water facilities for 10 urban slums. This includes community action as well as close association with key departments of the Delhi Government.

With this partnership, we aim to:

  1. Safeguard long-term access to improved water, sanitation and hygiene services: water and sanitation hardware, water recharge measures, management of solid waste, hygiene infrastructures in slum communities, schools and anganwadi centres.
  2. Make people realize the need for clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene, and demand the same: influence and mobilise the community while also network with key stakeholders (community collectives, urban local body representatives and WASH service providers, amongst others).
  3. Empower small groups: like Basti Vikas Manch (slum development forums), child cabinets, school management committees, anganwadi workers and teachers.
  4. Improve hygiene: awareness of the community and children on good hygiene practices like handwashing, safe handling of water, menstrual hygiene management as well as capacity building of sanitary and solid waste management workers, etc.
  5. Public and political awareness: amongst local urban local bodies (ULBs), with campaigns and community awareness initiatives.
  6. Train community members, frontline workers and relevant government officials: on relevant issues and services linked to water, sanitation and hygiene for long-term solutions.
  7. Public and political awareness: building the capacity of local urban local bodies (ULBs), conduct advocacy campaigns on key days like world water day, and influence change.
