Oracle is working together with WaterAid India to make clean and safe water accessible in fluoride contaminated Nuapada district, Odisha.

Our partnership

Water sources in Nuapada district in Odisha are adversely affected with fluoride contamination. Over the years, the number of habitations being identified with fluoride contaminated water sources has increased by 70% in the district. And so, WaterAid along with the support of Oracle is working towards making clean and safe water accessible in this region.

The primary objective of the program is to ensure access to clean water that is free from contaminants like fluoride in remote locations of the district. We promote alternate sources of water that can be made available to the residents and enable local partners and mandated institutions to ensure better management of water and sanitation services.

The year-long programme will help ensure clean drinking water for 10,000 people living in fluoride affected villages of the district. We have also trained school teachers on rainwater conservation, and have educated the children, including 500 adolescent girls, on good water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) practices. Also, we are working in 106 villages, 20 schools and 20 anganwadi located in marginalised locations across 20 gram panchayats (village councils) in the district.

Our aim is also to improve the knowledge on hygiene amongst the community members. This also includes the impact of excessive fluoride on child health and nutrition among 2,000 children, 500 adolescent girls and women by institutionalising systematic hygiene promotion in schools and anganwadis.
