Equitable and Sustainable Access to Water Supply & Sanitation Services in Hyderabad, aka iWASH

Our partnership

The integrated Water, Sanitation and Hygiene program at the community level aims to increase the availability of water in the catchment area, make available clean drinking water, sanitation facilities to increase the hygiene levels through a participatory and behaviour change approach with the community. 

The project is expected to run from February 2017 to March 2019. It covers 4 notified slums in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and 5 Government schools in the catchment area. The project is named iWASH to depict the availability of clean drinking water, continuous availability of water for domestic purposes and hygienic sanitation facilities through sustainable initiatives and positive change in behaviour at individual level in the communities without any discrimination between gender, differently abled, caste, colour etc.

iWASH will reach out to 800 households (200 households in each slum) and 1110 children. School intervention will be done to ensure safe drinking water and hygienic conditions.

The overall objective of the project is to increase access to safe water supply and sanitation services across the select urban households and schools of Hyderabad city.

The specific objectives of the project are:

To increase capacity, access of the urban households to improved and sustainable drinking water and sanitation services in the slums of Hyderabad city.

To increase sustained behaviour change and access of the school children to improved and sustainable drinking water and sanitation services.

To mobilise the government funds towards demonstrating a sustainable and viable model for WASH infrastructure service delivery.
