Privacy Policy

WaterAid Japan, an approved Specified Nonprofit Corporation (hereinafter referred to as WAJ), recognizes the importance of personal information and believes that the proper management of personal information is fundamental to its business activities as well as to fulfilling its social responsibilities as an organization.

The term "Personal Information" as used in this Privacy Policy refers to information about an individual that can be used to identify that individual, such as name, date of birth, telephone number, address, and e-mail address (including information that can easily be cross-checked with other information to identify an individual even if that information alone is insufficient to identify said individual), as well as information related to an individual, such as their donation history.

1. Management of Personal Information

WAJ will take necessary and appropriate measures to keep Personal Information accurate and up-to-date, and to prevent unauthorized access to, loss, alteration, or leakage of said Personal Information.

2. Purpose of use of Personal Information

WAJ will use the Personal Information provided within the scope necessary to achieve the following purposes related to WAJ's various activities:

  • To promote, publicize, and conduct research on WAJ's non-profit activities and other activities related to its social contribution, etc.
  • To respond to inquiries such as requests for information and materials
  • To send information such as receipts of donations and membership fees, activity reports, and financial reports
  • To send requests for support
  • To publicize events, etc.
  • To communicate with supporters for other reasons

3. Disclosure and Provision of Personal Information to Third Parties

WAJ has established administrative regulations regarding the handling of Personal Information and makes every effort to handle said Personal Information securely. WAJ will not disclose or provide Personal Information to third parties except in the following cases:

  • When the person concerned has given prior consent to disclosure
  • When disclosure is required by law
  • When disclosure is necessary for the protection of the life, body, or property of an individual and it is difficult to obtain the consent of the individual
  • When disclosure is necessary to cooperate with a national agency, a local government, or an individual or entity entrusted by either a national agency or local government to execute affairs prescribed by law, and obtaining the consent of the individual is likely to impede the execution of such affairs
  • When it is necessary to improve public health or to promote the sound growth of children, and it is difficult to obtain the consent of the person in question.

*WAJ may entrust the handling of Personal Information as part of its business to a company or other professional contractor that it deems trustworthy and has concluded a confidentiality agreement with. In such cases, WAJ will exercise necessary and appropriate supervision over the contractor to ensure that the entrusted Personal Information is managed safely.

*WAJ may provide Personal Information to companies to which WAJ outsources the distribution of Personal Information for the purpose of delivering publicity and requests for support, etc., in an appropriate manner that takes into consideration the secure management of said Personal Information.

4. Inquiries Related to, Corrections to and Discontinuance of the Use of Personal Information

If you wish to inquire about, change, correct, or discontinue the use of your Personal Information as held by WAJ, WAJ will promptly respond to your request in good faith after confirming your identity.

5. Use of SSL, Cookies, etc.

WAJ will use encryption technology "SSL" (Secure Socket Layer) as much as possible when obtaining Personal Information from the website. WAJ may also use "cookies" (a system that uses information sent from a web server to a user's computer and is consequently stored on it) and other third-party systems for the purpose of measuring advertising effectiveness and access conditions. However, WAJ does not use such systems to identify individuals.

6. Compliance with Laws and Regulations

WAJ will comply with all applicable laws and regulations in handling Personal Information, and will review and improve its operational standards as appropriate. In such cases, any changes to this Privacy Policy will be posted on the WAJ website.
