Team description
WaterAid Nigeria is currently implementing its 2023-2028 country programme strategy. The new strategy sets a 5-year focus on delivering universal access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene services and Climate Resilient WASH by deepening our influencing approach. WaterAid works by supporting local organisations and government authorities to design and implement sustainable WASH projects using climate resilient technologies that can be managed by the community itself. WaterAid also seeks to influence policy change through government and other key international organizations to secure and protect the right of poor people to safe, affordable water, sanitation and hygiene services.
Our ambition is to directly reach 10 million people with improved basic WASH services through our interventions and indirectly reach 17million through our support and influencing to government to scale up basic WASH access. We will maintain a balance between our rural and urban interventions.
Job purpose
The post holder will be expected to perform a wide range of duties using independent judgment and initiative to determine approaches or actions to take in non-routine situations. In broad terms, the role holder will provide administrative and operational support to the Head of Strategic Partnerships & Grants Management especially in relation to setting up/organizing meetings, participating in bid development and fundraising initiatives, report drafting of key activities undertaken by the Grants and Strategic Partnership Department, mapping and analysis of fundraising opportunities and general operational/administrative processes for fundraising and grants management.
S/he will be required to imbibe WaterAid core values and adhere to guidelines, standards and policies of the organization. Most importantly S/he will be able to demonstrate sufficient professional and personal maturity to be entrusted with what in many cases will be sensitive information.
Accountabilities
A key responsibility of the intern will be to provide support to the Head of Strategic Partnerships & Grants Management at large, in a number of capacities and activities. These will include:
- Support in drafting concept notes and proposals.
- Set-up and organize donor and partners’ meetings and take notes.
- Regularly track and update reporting timelines of all restricted grants in responsible team members’ calendars.
- Map and analyse fundraising opportunities.
- Compile progress summary reports on restricted grants to be presented at partners/donor engagement meetings.
- Prepare Tracking reporting timelines for secured restricted grants.
- Support grant compliance monitoring and other field related activities undertaken by the Grants Management and Strategic Partnership team.
- Other responsibilities as directed by the Head of Strategic Partnerships & Grants Management

Essential criteria
- Completion of a 4-year undergraduate degree course in social sciences, or business-related field.
- Completion of National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) programme no more than 5 years before date of application
- Master's Degree is an added advantage
- Previous experience preparing technical reports and drafting business proposals
