Ms Zartaj Gul, Minister of State for Climate Change, inaugurated WaterAid's girl-friendly toilet in IMSG G-9/4 along with Tim Wainwright, Chief Executive WaterAid UK and Tim Clark, Board Chair WaterAid UK on 25 November 2019.

The girl-friendly toilet is a private, safe and accessible toilet where schoolgirls can manage their periods easily and comfortably so that they do not have to miss school. Apart from the basic toilet facilities, it also includes a mirror, a secure place for menstruation pads and a chamber where used pads can be disposed of.

Ms Zartaj emphasised on the importance of washrooms for girls and talked about the stigma around women asking for a toilet. She said women should not be ashamed of it as it is their natural need.

WaterAid installs such models in schools for schoolgirls to feel confident while managing their periods and for other stakeholders to replicate the model in other schools across Pakistan.
