Are you a senior, professional Contracts & Compliance Manager with a track record of contracts and compliance for grants from institutional donors and foundations? WaterAid is looking for a Contracts & Compliance Manager to lead, oversee and coordinate contracts and compliance functions and processes. This is a pivotal role in WaterAid and will require close collaboration with colleagues across the Federation.

The role

As Contracts and Compliance Manager you will be responsible for leading, overseeing and coordinating contracts management functions and processes (pre and post award) and for ensuring high quality and effective contract management across the organisation. This is a senior position that will require both excellent interpersonal skills and an eye for detail.

You will be part of the Programme Funding and Partnerships Team and will work closely with colleagues in the team and the Grants Controller, as well as a range of colleagues from across the Federation. You will report to the Director of the team. 


  • Review, feedback and sign-off on contracts & compliance related work and products (pre and post award).
  • Advise, assist, and build capacity of colleagues in the area of contract management. 
  • Monitor WaterAid Sweden’s portfolio of contracts to ensure proactive planning and enable timely and effective contract management.
  • Ensure that contract management is aligned with financial best practices as well as local rules and regulations, in close coordination with the Grants Controller. 
  • Review and implement effective contract & compliance processes, tools, and standards.
  • Participate and represent WaterAid Sweden in federation-wide dialogues on contracts and compliance ways of working and problem-solving.

Person specification


  • Relevant academic background. 
  • Substantial experience of contracts and compliance of restricted funding from institutional donors and foundations, including quality assurance, coordination and developing processes. 
  • Experience of working in an international organisation, building relationships with colleagues in different entities and countries, and coordinating people in order to work effectively and flexibly.  
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills. 
  • Attention to detail.
  • Great presentation skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Proficiency in English and Swedish. 


  • Experience of working on water, sanitation and hygiene issues.  
  • Working knowledge of French.
