At WaterAid Tanzania, everything we do is aimed at ensuring the most vulnerable people get improved access to clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene. We do this through supporting the sector to unblock some of the key challenges they are facing to achieve the current national WASH targets.

Currently, this means focusing on WASH interventions that are sustainable, building capacity in the sector to ensure utilities and local government can deliver services, embedding WASH in other sectors and using research and lessons from our projects to influence policy.

Under our Country Programme Strategy 2023-2028, we have two programme aims:

  • To achieve sustainable, inclusive and safe WASH services in targeted geographic areas for wider change.  Throughout the duration of this strategy, we will work at national and sub-national levels while focusing on three key areas: developing WASH mapping in selected geographic areas; developing costed district plans, and; strengthening sector influencing.
  • To prioritise WASH across the health sector to improve public health. We believe the focus on prioritising WASH in public health should continue to capitalise on lessons learned and gains already made in recent years. For example, WAT supported the development of national standard guidelines such as the WASH in HCFs and School WASH Guidelines being used nationally.
