School – it's a place where we go to learn, make friends, and grow into our potential.

Our school memories will be different, yet for girls at school in Lahan, Nepal, their experiences feel all too similar.

Right now, many schools across Nepal do not have clean running water. For girls like Puja (pictured), it means they must leave class to collect water – which is contaminated and dirty. Over half of the pupils are girls, yet there is only one functioning toilet for them. Without decent toilets, clean water, and soap, many girls miss school when they are on their periods.

Top of her class, Puja understands the power of education to fulfil her future ambitions: “We go to school to gain knowledge which will help us become somebody we wish and spread knowledge to others. Life is not possible without water, since we need water to do everything like drink, cook, clean and wash.”

When girls miss out on water, they miss out on the knowledge to create change.

This winter, you can help bring clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene to schools in Nepal, so that generations of girls get the chance to learn. Give before the 15 February 2022 and the UK government will match your donations up to £2 million, making double the impact.

About WaterAid

WaterAid has teams in 28 countries across the world, working with our partners to transform millions of lives every year by improving access to clean water, toilets and hygiene.

Since 1981, we’ve directly reached 28 million people with clean water. But we can’t stop there.

In the last 40 years, we’ve gone from strength to strength to become one of the most respected organisations dealing solely with water, sanitation and hygiene issues.

What do WaterAid do?

While installing taps and toilets is essential to our work, we do so much more. We convince governments to change laws, link policy makers with people on the ground, pool knowledge and resources and rally support from people and organisations around the world, making lasting change happen on a massive scale.

Why monthly donations have a bigger impact

Regular gifts by direct debit give us a predictable income so WaterAid can commit to reaching more people around the world. Plus, direct debits mean we pay less in processing fees than for credit card gifts.

Our fundraising promise to you

We’ll use your donations in the best way possible. In every £1 we spent, 74p went on delivering services and making change happen and 26p went on fundraising and governance*
