A race that means more

Over the past 37 years, we've made huge progress to bring clean water and good hygiene to more people. Now, more than ever, this work is critical in protecting our global community from the spread of COVID-19.

But the pandemic is escalating rapidly, and we need to do even more right now in countries with already fragile health systems, to protect as many people as possible and to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe.

Will you join the race to help reach everyone with life-saving clean water and good hygiene?

FAQs

How do I track my evidence and my distance?

We recommend you use the fitness tracker app Strava to track your run. You can download this app to your phone and take a screenshot of your finished run to share on social media.

Strava can also connect to many other apps and devices to pull through your activity. Firstly, choose your fitness app or device from the options below and then follow the instructions to connect it to Strava.

Where can I do my run?

You can choose you route, just make sure it's close to home to comply with current government guidance.

How can I collect sponsorship money?

The easiest and quickest way to collect sponsorship money from your friends and family is to set up a fundraising page on JustGiving. That means you can share the link on social media, or send it to people - and they can donate online securely.

Use the links below to set up a fundraising page for your chosen challenge:

What's my fundraising target?

We recommend £100 as a great starting point. We have tons of resources, tips and support to help you with your fundraising, so you'll hit your target in no time.

£96 can buy handwashing stations for 12 families in West Africa.

I’m stuck for fundraising ideas. Can you help?

You’ve come to the right place! Check out our at home fundraising guide and tips and advice to help get you started.

How do I pay in my fundraising?

If you've raised money on JustGiving your job is done! All the online donations made to your fundraising page are automatically transferred over to WaterAid and allocated to your total. If you do decide to fundraise, you can log in to your JustGiving account and link this to Strava. This way sponsors will be able to see your run on your fundraising page.

What training advice and support do you provide?

We have bespoke training plans, put together by RunningWithUs, and you'll get direct access to the expertise of our professional coaches. Whether you’re brand new to running or a seasoned runner, we have a training plan to help you. If you have any specific training questions, you can contact RunningWithUs directly by emailing [email protected].

What is the government Covid-19 advice regarding outdoor exercise?

The current government advice states it's safe to go outside to run once a day alone or with a member of your household, as long as you keep a safe distance from other people (at least a 2-meter distance).

But you must also follow Government advice and minimise the amount of time you are outside – so please ensure that you complete the challenge as part of your daily exercise routine. The challenge does not have to be completed in one go. You can run your total distance of 5k or over, over multiple runs and multiple days.

It is essential that you do not exercise outside more than you would normally. Please read the Government's guidance which can be found here and adhere to it at all times.
