Join service organisations across the UK in supporting communities like Ratni’s to transform their futures – thanks to the life-changing power of clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene.
The entire village of Sajan Koli, southern Pakistan, relies on a single handpump, with residents queuing to collect water up to five times a day.
Access to toilets is also very limited and Ratni told us that illnesses such as diarrhoea are common.
The situation is even worse for women and girls – something mother-of-three Ratni knows all too well.
Without a toilet at home, she has no choice but to go in the open, waking first thing or waiting until the cover of night to avoid being seen.
Waiting all day – even when on their period – has a lasting impact on women’s health and wellbeing.
But together, we can change this.
Catalysing Change project
By the end of May 2025, we’ll have supported over 163,000 people to access decent toilets and we’ll have improved water, hygiene and sanitation conditions in 20 schools and five healthcare centres across the region.
Women like Ratni won’t just benefit from these changes – they’ll be the driving force behind them. The project will ensure that women’s voices are at the centre of change, empowering others and helping transform lives for generations to come.
Ratni’s looking forward to the day when she can simply go to the toilet without fear.
She’s keen to learn more about good hygiene, and plans to take the lead in promoting good practices around the community.
I aspire to group together some active women from the community, and teach them about sanitation and hygiene. Then, we'll make an effort to raise awareness.
