As a child, Mary was forced to travel long distances in search of water instead of spending time at school. Often this would be dirty river water. That water made her sick, and so she missed even more school.
But a few years ago, everything changed. Thanks in part to people who chose to add WaterAid to their will, Mary’s community now has clean water and decent toilets.
This means that children can concentrate on their learning and stay healthy.
Mary's local health centre is now equipped to deliver better healthcare and protect staff and patients from infections.
It is in this very health centre that Mary gave birth to her youngest son, Chileshe, who has started life with the clean water that every child deserves.
Now Mary can watch her children grow up strong and healthy.
The fact that children will grow up healthier due to access to clean, running water in the community of Simango makes me very excited about the future.”
