What our volunteers do

As a member of the legendary Loo Crew – our largest and most visible volunteer team at Green Man – you'll be responsible for:

  • cleaning composting toilets across the festival site,
  • picking up litter in and around the toilets,
  • refilling hand sanitiser,
  • talking to festivalgoers about WaterAid and the importance of decent toilets and good hygiene.

NB: this role can be physically demanding, involving travelling between toilet locations (in all weathers) for up to six hours while carrying cleaning equipment. If you have any concerns about your ability to carry out this role, please use the space provided on the application form to let us know.

Shower cleaners will be volunteering in small teams, cleaning and tidying the showers to ensure they're ready for the next person to use.

Shower attendants will be volunteering in pairs, keeping the shower changing rooms in the main camping area clean and tidy.

NB: this role can be physically demanding, involving travelling between shower locations (in all weathers) for up to six hours while carrying cleaning equipment. If you have any concerns about your ability to carry out this role, please use the space provided on the application form to let us know.

As part of a small team, you’ll be responsible for:

  • explaining how to use the urinals and answering any questions about how they work (don't worry if you haven't encountered any beforehand – you'll have full training before your first shift!),
  • keeping the areas clean and tidy,
  • managing any queues.

The women’s urinals are very popular, so can get busy – providing the perfect opportunity to talk to festivalgoers about WaterAid’s work, especially the importance of decent toilets and good hygiene for women and girls around the world.

NB: this role is only open to volunteers who identify as women or non-binary. It can be physically demanding, involving travelling between urinal locations (in all weathers) for up to six hours while carrying cleaning equipment. If you have any concerns about your ability to carry out this role, please use the space provided on the application form to let us know.

We don't ask you to choose what you'd like to do, but as part of the application process you can highlight any particular skills and experiences that will help us allocate the most suitable role to you.

What it's like to volunteer at Green Man

You'll complete four shifts of six hours; the rest of the time, you're free to enjoy the festival!

All volunteers will camp in the dedicated WaterAid section of the crew campsite, where you'll have access to facilities including showers, toilets, and tea/coffee/hot drinks. Unfortunately, we can't accommodate campervans or other live-in vehicles.

You'll receive one meal voucher for each day that you have a shift, redeemable at crew catering.
