Before, I went for a run and played football for one to three hours without drinking anything. Portrait of Roland, 21, called 'Mbinina'. Analamanga region, Madagascar. WaterAid/Ernest Randriarimalala

Football is one of the world’s most popular sports for people of all ages – and for good reason! It’s fun, competitive and great for fitness. But in some communities there’s one thing holding children back from enjoying the beautiful game – water.

Stefano, Elys and Roland (pictured) have one thing in common – they love football. But until recently they struggled to play their favourite game simply because they didn’t have a source of clean water.

With the World Cup just around the corner, it's the perfect time to learn a bit about the importance of clean water, and inspire your KS1 and KS2 pupils with our fun football-related activities. You can run the activities as part of your PE lesson, summer Sports Day, or even as part of a day of fundraising for WaterAid. We hope you can get involved!
