The COVID-19 pandemic requires a global response. 4 in 10 households worldwide still don’t have soap and water, meaning people cannot wash their hands to protect themselves from coronavirus.

Thanks to our supporters and partners, we are getting emergency clean water and handwashing essentials to vulnerable people across 26 countries. Together we are making a bigger difference.

Our global response to COVID-19

In 2013 WaterCan, a leading Canadian charity, joined the WaterAid federation and became WaterAid Canada.

Having reached more than 1.2 million people in east Africa through their community-driven projects, WaterCan brought more than 26 years of experience to WaterAid.

Now, they are working together with the Government of Canada and partners all over the world to make an even bigger impact.

Their amazing supporters are changing lives through projects like the Clean Water for Schools Program in Ethiopia, Uganda and Kenya, and the Canada-Africa Initiative to Address Maternal, Newborn and Child Mortality in Tanzania.

“Life at this school is going to be very different."

Clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene give students like Melkamsira, 14, and Edilawit, 12, the chance to stay healthy, stay in education and break free from poverty, changing their lives for good.
