Creating lasting change
It's never been about just a building a well
Since WaterAid was founded in 1981, we have honed our approach to clean water projects. The most effective way to bring about lasting change, and to empower communities to reach their own potential, is to have them on board from the get-go.
From planning, to building and, most crucially, the ongoing maintenance. This way the people of the village are equipped to look after their water and sanitation system long after our engineers have left the area.
This is what lasting change looks like. This is what ends the devastating effects of dirty water on a community.
So far we have reached 26.4 million people with clean water.
That's 26.4 million more empowered people in the world, 26.4 million people now positioned to stay in school, farm or start businesses and generally take control of their lives. 26.4 million more independent people.
We are WaterAid and this is how we work
That's the kind of work we do and we still have a long way to go if we going to reach the remaining 1 in 9 people globally who still do not have clean water.
Join us and empower communities everywhere.
