June Update
See how you can join us this summer!
Whether it's helping us bring clean water to health centers around the world or starting your very own LemonAid stand, you can make a difference this summer. In this update you can also learn about our work and the supporters (just like you!) that make it possible.
Summer Appeal
This summer, you can help provide sustainable access to clean water in health centers, to bring life-saving benefits to mothers, newborn babies and other patients.
1 in 3 health centers around the world lack clean water.
Clean water can transform the health care that people are able to give and receive – and WaterAid is determined to help get every health center access to clean water within a generation. With your support, progress is being made, but there’s still much work to be done.
LemonAid
Is there anything better than a cup of homemade lemonade on a hot day? Start a LemonAid stand this summer.
Quench the world's thirst this summer!
Lemonade, or, as we like to call it, LemonAid is an enjoyable summer treat and sparks nostalgia in most of us. So why not set up your own LemonAid stand, using our free resources above and quench more than just your own thirst.
Father’s Day
This Father's Day we're celebrating dads all around the world - funny, hardworking, kind, ambitious and encouraging dads!
Meet Sellu.
He lives in Tombohuaun, Sierra Leone, a small, vibrant village that counts on clean water since January 2018. Sellu was heavily involved with the project at Tombohuaun, helping with the construction of the new well that now provides clean water to 7,256 people!
Sellu is no stranger to the importance of clean water in a community. He is a cocoa farmer and fisherman both trades that rely on water. Sellu is also a loving father of four and while his story has not always been easy, he was kind enough to share it with us.
Sellu has four children, Ramatu who is 6 months, Nancy, 6, Jattu 12 and Beindu who unfortunately passed away when she was just 5 years old. Sellu describes Beindu as a bright child who had dreams to fulfill, goals to accomplish and a whole life ahead of her. Sellu and his wife Nancy now know their daughter passed away from a water-related illness. Nancy used to get sick frequently too and Sellu would invest more than 50% of his income in healthcare costs.
Having clean water at Tombohuaun means that families like Sellu’s have the opportunity to thrive, that children like Beindu have a different future.
This Father’s Day, we invite you to celebrate people like Sellu that no matter what continue to show us the power of perseverance and love.
Clean water in Tombohuaun
Before water arrived at Tombohuaun we asked Sellu what clean water would mean to him and he said happiness. Thank you for making that happen!
Choose a Challenge
See how you can combine adventure and fundraising to bring clean water to the communities we work in !
For the past two years WaterAid has worked with Choose a Challenge, a unique adventure travel program for university students across the country. These adventure trips not only make fundraising exciting and accessible for university students, but students are also able to take on an unforgettable adventure in a country where we are currently working.
This year we had 30 students from Cornell University, Stony Brook University, and SUNY Geneseo taking on Everest Base Camp and Mount Kilimanjaro.
They raised over $90,000!
Often on adventure trips like these, students are faced with lack of access to clean water and modern toilets, which is an opportunity for them to think more critically about how important those basic necessities are.
Meet Amrit Hingorani from Cornell University.
He's one of 30 students that participated in Choose a Challenge this year, raising $4,500 for WaterAid on his journey to Everest Base Camp!
Liquid IV
Liquid IV generously donated some of their products to keep our trekkers hydrated during their trip! Liquid I.V. is a hydration multiplier that provides 2-3x the hydration than water alone. We are so grateful for their support as our trekkers take on their challenge!
