Life without clean water is a daily reality for millions
In many countries around the world, taps, wells and pipes simply don’t exist. And where they do, they are often not affordable for the poorest people or are not designed to last. Everyone, everywhere needs a sustainable supply of clean water: for drinking, washing, cleaning, cooking for a happy, healthy life.
By making a gift today, you are changing lives.
Our approach
Since 1981, WaterAid has been working with local communities in 34 countries to supply clean water and decent toilets. So far we have reached 21 million people with clean water. But we need you to reach the 844 million people still without clean water. Are you in?
The impact on women and children
Women and children are most affected by the lack of clean water. Collecting water from unclean sources such as rivers is usually done in the early hours of the morning, when the water source is at a peak. These long walks take up a lot of time, time that women could spend working and earning a living, and children could be in school.
And even worse, the dirty water they collect can make them ill, with potentially fatal diseases like diarrhea. Right now, 289,000 children die each year from diarrheal diseases. That's 800 children every day.
