15 million

The COVID-19 pandemic requires a global response. 4 in 10 households worldwide still don’t have soap and water, meaning people cannot wash their hands to protect themselves from coronavirus.

We are working with partners and Government on a coordinated response; strengthening COVID-19 prevention in communities with key messaging in six local languages; and providing hygiene kits for informal Islamic schools and at-risk groups. We have also raised decision makers’ awareness about the problems of access to water through press and taking part in a TV report on the lack of water in certain areas.

Our global response to COVID-19

Senegal is on the westernmost edge of Africa’s coast – its capital city, Dakar, stretches out into the Atlantic Ocean.

The country is known across West Africa for its dedicated culture of oral history, and throughout the world for its music. More than 15 million people live in its sunny tropical climate, the economy driven largely by the country’s natural resources.

What does WaterAid do in Senegal?

Our office in Dakar works to strengthen WaterAid’s impact and visibility in West Africa. It builds relationships with local governments and decision-makers who share our vision. Working this way brings people together, encouraging collaboration so that many voices can be heard and an even bigger impact can be made. Together, we are changing millions of lives.

The office is also responsible for providing support, advice and guidance to all our staff and partners delivering services in countries throughout the region.
