A Touch of France garden designers, Patricia Thirion and Janet Honour

Passionate plants-women Patricia (above, left), who is from Paris and London born Janet (above, right) met and became firm friends while studying garden design as mature students at Capel Manor College in Enfield, Middlesex.

However, their first experiences of gardening couldn't have been more different. Patricia grew up in a 5th floor apartment in Paris with a balcony garden consisting of a few geraniums in the occasional terracotta pot. Janet discovered the delights of gardening at a very early age 'helping' her father in the family garden in Staines, Middlesex at every opportunity.

Patricia originally came to London as an au pair, but settled here permanently. After being a full time mother, she embarked on a Diploma of Garden Design course at the prestigious Capel Manor College with a view to making of career of what had become a passion.

Having successfully graduated from Capel Manor College in 2006, Patricia and Janet decided to apply to create a garden at Chelsea. They were thrilled to be accepted, just out of college, and were 'over the moon' when they scooped a Silver Gilt for their first garden 'Le Jardin de Vincent', an achievement they repeated with their garden 'Entente Cordiale' in 2009.

Patricia and Janet continue to develop their garden design business, A Touch of France. You can follow Janet and Patricia as they work on their 2013 Chelsea garden for WaterAid on their Facebook page.
