MDG+10 summit hub

On 20-22 September 2010, heads of state from around the world met at the UN headquarters in New York to discuss progress towards meeting the Millennium Development Goals.

This was a hugely important summit, which is why WaterAid was there in full force. As well as lobbying and campaigning in the lead up to the summit, WaterAid was busy in New York throughout the week, making the case (in a variety of ways!) for a stronger focus on sanitation in particular.

And we couldn't have done it without your support. Over 86,000 campaign actions, all urging the UK government to ensure that sanitation is no longer neglected, had a powerful impact. Thank you!

As for the outcome? It was a mixed bag. There were plenty of encouraging references made to sanitation and it feels like the message is getting through. But, in terms of concrete action, well, there wasn't much. Read more here.

What next though? We are now targeting Chancellor George Osborne and Secretary of State for International Development, Andrew Mitchell, urging them to prioritise water and sanitation in the Spending Review on 20 October. Send them a message here.
