United Utilities Plc has been an active supporter of WaterAid since 1982.
Making a difference in people's lives is what we do at United Utilities – whether it's providing essential water services to homes and businesses or working with community groups to breathe new life into neighbourhoods.
There is a huge commitment to WaterAid from UU stakeholders, ranging from employees, customers, regulators, union representatives and business partners to the political arena.
This commitment was demonstrated recently when United Utilities took their Executive Leadership Team to Zambia to see the work of WaterAid in action and helped to build 3 blocks of toilets for use by the local school and community.
A new 5-year partnership agreement has recently been signed between WaterAid and United Utilities, which will seek to formalise the commitments made to WaterAid but also build and enhance the already successful relationship.
2008 also saw the achievement of a landmark milestone for the North West – raising over £10m for WaterAid since 1994.
United Utilities Chief Executive, Philip Green, says:
"WaterAid has carried out an incredible amount of work in the world's developing countries which has had real results in saving and improving lives. We are committed to helping WaterAid achieve its aims and objectives".
The partnership with WaterAid forms a key part of the company Corporate Responsibility programme. Staff and customers are encouraged to support WaterAid in a variety of ways. There are currently over 500 volunteers involved in raising awareness of WaterAid's work and raising funds to support United Utilities country link to Zambia.
