World Water Day 2010

World Water Day, Monday 22 March 2010, is a crucial moment in the fight against the global sanitation and water crisis.

In just one month, politicians from across the globe will gather in Washington DC to discuss what they need to do to fulfil some of the most basic rights of the world's citizens – access to a safe toilet and clean water.

They must act, and so must we.

The World's Longest Toilet Queue is a mass mobilisation event and Guinness World Record attempt bringing together thousands of campaigners from across the world, including London and across the UK, to demand real change at the meeting. Watch this short clip to find out more:

We need your action too!

1. Join a real queue. There are queues popping up all over the UK, here are some that WaterAid supporters are organising:

  • London: Mon 22 March, Old Palace Yard, Westminster (see map here) at 8.30am
  • York: Sat 20 March 12-2pm York Minster (at the West end)
  • Scarborough: Sat 20 march, Alma Square Gardens, 11-3pm Queues at 11.30am and 1pm
  • Brighton: Sat 20 march Bartholomew Square, Brighton city centre, Midday.
  • Birmingham: Mon 22 March, Victoria Square, Birmingham City Centre at 11.30am

There is still time to organise your own queue! Visit www.worldtoiletqueue.org for more information. If you are organising a loo queue of your own do let us know.

2. Join the online Queue (use the widget above!) and add your name to a global petition demanding change from politicians at this meeting. You won't be part of the record attempt, but you will be making your voice heard with thousands of others.

3. Contact your local politicians. The next UK general election is looming so send a message to politicians in your area and ask them to do all they can to ensure the next Government listens to WaterAid's calls!
