At the event, they shared stories of how they have been raising vital awareness and funds for WaterAid, and heard how that money has been spent. Among the speakers were Barry Light, who is celebrating his 60th year by running 60 marathons on 60 weeks (and aiming to raise £60,000!) - a fantastic challenge! Barry's inspiring speech meant that his fundraising total received a healthy boost after the ASM. We also heard from Linda Shurlock, who talked about how she has been transformed from a reluctant campaigner into a WaterAid champion who has influenced national and international decisions on water and sanitation! The theme of both talks was that ordinary people can do extraordinary things. And the meeting showed that plenty of extraordinary things are being done for WaterAid - all to help the poorest communities in the world access safe water and sanitation. As our President, HRH Prince Charles, said during his video address to supporters: "I am heartened by the generosity and commitment of people like you in ensuring the poorest people have access to vital resources. Thank you each and everyone of you for your support. Without you, WaterAid wouldn't be able to continue this most important work." He also talked about his recent trip to Tanzania and remarked that he was impressed by WaterAid staff, volunteers, local partners and innovative partnerships. In her round up of the year, Chief Executive Barbara Frost said: "In our 31 years WaterAid has helped over 17.5 million people with clean water and since we started counting in 2004 - nearly 13 million people with somewhere safe and decent to go to the toilet – none of which would have been possible without your support." Barbara also said: "We are really lucky to have excellent, committed and passionate people working for us." Other highlights from the meeting included a fantastic presentation from Angharad McKenzie and Robert Kampala on The Big Dig, which included some great stories from Boyce Nyirenda and our partners in Malawi. The President's Awards for Outstanding Contribution to WaterAid were also presented at the ASM. The worthy winners were: Whitbread Group plc Jayne Farrin Neil Whiter Tom Drake Primrose Drake Steve Arthur Thank you to everyone involved in supporting the ASM this year.
