Hhygiene practitioners workshop blog
WaterAid is having a very interesting hygiene practitioners regional workshop in South Asia and we want to share our experiences. You can join us too!
Please visit the blog at: http://hpwhygiene.blogspot.com/
From there you can twitter, see presentations and interviews on youtube, access papers and and join in our discussions by posting comments. We have seen a lot of interesting content including:
- How to monitor hygiene behaviour and impacts - do people tell the truth in surveys?
- Are we excluding men from hygiene promotion - what is the possible impact?
- Menstrual hygiene management - impact on women's mobility
- Reaching different groups (e.g. Why focus on handwashing if people have no hands)
- And much, much more!
Water facility restoration post Cyclone Aila
Cyclone Aila recently hit Bangladesh causing huge devastation in the coastal area where WaterAid Bangladesh works. Following the cyclone, we showed local people how to restore their water facilities including their ponds, tubewells, rain water harvesting systems and pond sand filters damaged by the tidal surge.
We have now also developed a booklet in Bangla on the procedures.

"Can pay, will pay": legal water comes to a Dhaka slum After years of painstaking negotiations, people living in a small Dhaka slum have won the right to receive legal, safe water from the city authority, despite living in an "unofficial" community.
Through their Community Based Organisation, residents will receive an official water bill for the first time - without the need for DSK/WaterAid to act as a guarantor.
