Municipality of Sakhipur celebrated 8 years of Sakhipur co-compost plant and the recognition of the plant as replicable model in Bangladesh Government’s 8th Five Year Plan yesterday. The joyful event was honored by the presence of Md. Ataul Gani, District Commissioner of Tangail, Mayor of Sakhipur Municipality Freedom Fighter Abu Hanif Azad, Hasin Jahan, Country Director of WaterAid, Chairman of Sakhipur Upazilla Parishad, DD of Department of Agriculture Extension Sakhipur, UNO of Sakhipur and other participants.

A token of appreciation was given to waste and sanitation workers, plant operators and farmers for their contribution in the event. After the event, guests visited Shakhipur co-compost plant to see the overall treatment process.

Shakhipur co-compost plant is an innovative practice of faecal sludge management (FSM) initiated by the Municipality and WaterAid. The plant follows the full chain of sanitation from collection to treatment, and at the final stage converting sludge as co-compost that can be used in agriculture.
