MoU signing ceremony between Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) and WaterAid Bangladesh for the National Hygiene Survey 2017

WaterAid and the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) on June 13, 2017 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on conducting the Bangladesh National Hygiene Survey 2017. This exceptional collaboration will aim to explore the overall hygiene situation of the country as well as monitor the progress of Hygiene related indicators related to the SDGs and the 7th Five Year Plan of the Government of Bangladesh.

Running from this month to September 2018, the Hygiene Survey will be conducted both in urban and rural areas to assess hygiene knowledge, practices and facilities including handwashing with soap, cleanliness and menstrual hygiene management around households, schools, hospitals, restaurants and with traditional birth attendants.

The MoU was signed by Md. Amir Hossain, Director General of BBS and Dr Md Khairul Islam, Country Director of WaterAid Bangladesh in presence of K M Mozammel Hoq, Secretary of Statistic & Informatics Division, Ministry of Planning. 

Both parties inked this initiative with hopes of ensuring a safe and healthy environment by promoting best hygiene practices amongst people of the nation.

Amongst many present at the signing ceremony were Bikash Kishore Das, Additional Secretary of the Statistics and Informatics Division, Ministry of Planning; Md. Mashud Alam, Director of the Statistics & Informatics Division (SID), BBS; Md. Liakath Ali, Director of Programmes and Policy Advocacy, WaterAid, and other staff members of SID, BBS and WaterAid Bangladesh.
