September Update

It’s been a couple of busy weeks here at WaterAid, and while we gear up for even busier weeks ahead we wanted to share with you what we’ve been up to.
From taking a moment to thank our favorite teachers to sharing photographs with community members, to learning how fashion can bring clean water to communities in India and Bangladesh to working on Nicaragua’s first SMART Center - these past couple of weeks have been full of surprises!
SMART Center
The center is a learning hub for water, sanitation and hygiene technologies.
Learn about Nicaragua’s first SMART Center! The center is a place where partners (private companies, governments, academic institutions, NGOs) along with aspiring local entrepreneurs can work together to find sustainable water and sanitation services for everyone, everywhere. That means clean water and reliable toilets for more families! Learn more about the ripple effect the SMART Center is creating.
The Water Effect Exhibition:
A Photo Story of Hope, Opportunity, Lives and Livelihoods Transformed
During the High-Level Political Forum at the United Nations in July, WaterAid teamed up with Water.org and the H&M Foundation to present ‘The Water Effect’ exhibition: a photo story of hope, opportunity, lives and livelihoods transformed.
The exhibition featured photos from WaterAid’s work around the world that were delicately selected by Mexican artist Victoria Villasana. These photos put a spotlight on the global water crisis and demonstrates how affordable access to clean water and reliable toilets can transform lives and reduce inequalities. Our Voices from the Field Officers recently made sure everyone had a copy of their photo!
Here’s chance to meet Victoria Villasana and the people in the photos: Mary from Uganda, Bibata from Burkina Faso and Veronique from Madagascar.
Together we make a lasting difference.
We are working with partners and communities to improve water and sanitation facilities in garment factories in India and Bangladesh.
New York, London, Milan and Paris are the four major cities that host Fashion Week during the month of September. It’s where designers, models and fashion enthusiasts gather to show and see the trends of the upcoming year. One whole week to share creativity and appreciation for this art.
In the last couple of years there have been great strides in making the clothing production industry safer and more just for all. In Positive threads of progress throughout the apparel supply chain the partnership between WaterAid and HSBC is highlighted. See how together, along with communities, we will improve water and sanitation facilities in garment factories in India and Bangladesh.
World Teacher's Day (October 5)
We are honoring teachers everywhere, to thank them for the work they do!
From sparking creativity to instilling some tough lessons (often in grammar), teachers play a huge role in shaping us in our earliest years. In the run up to World Teacher's Day we want to hear from you - please tell us about your favorite teacher, why they made such an impression on you and what you would like to tell them now. Ready to share?
