Because I am alone I only need to collect water once a day. The water source is far away so I need to stop 4 or 5 times on the way.
Balbina, Timor-Leste

Daily water collection is challenging for everyone without clean water close to him, but it's especially difficult for groups that are marginalised, such as women and girls, people with disabilities, and the elderly. And often, the water collected from the nearest water source is not safe to drink.

Ermelinda's husband passed away a number of years ago, and her children all live in other villages. She is forced to make the steep, arduous journey to collect water everyday on her own.

"You know that I stay alone so I need to be looking for the food, for water, for clothes. It’s difficult for me. If I cannot collect the water and I have no water at home this is not good for me".

It doesn’t need to be this way. Join WaterAid as a monthly giver and you can change the story for women like Ermelinda.

With the support of people like you, we can bring clean water to everyone everywhere.

When you join us as a WaterAid supporter you will receive:

  • A welcome pack explaining how your donation will make a difference to the lives of some of the world’s poorest people.
  • Updates on WaterAid’s work through Oasis magazine posted to you twice per year and a monthly e-news which contains report backs on communities and families reached with the help of your support. You will also receive news from the field and updates from families benefiting from your gift.
  • All donations $2 and over are 100% tax deductable.
  • An annual tax receipt in July.

Your monthly gift will help ensure many more women like Ermelinda and their communities are reached with desperately needed clean water and sanitation.

WaterAid has teams in 28 countries across the world, working with our partners to transform millions of lives every year by improving access to clean water, toilets and hygiene.

Since 1981, we’ve reached over 29 million people with clean water. But we can’t stop there.

In the last 43 years, we’ve gone from strength to strength to become one of the most respected organisations dealing solely with water, sanitation and hygiene issues.

While installing taps and toilets is essential to our work, we do so much more. We convince governments to change laws, link policy makers with people on the ground, pool knowledge and resources and rally support from people and organisations around the world, making lasting change happen on a massive scale.

Regular gifts by direct debit give us a predictable income so we can commit to helping more people. Plus direct debits mean we pay less in processing fees than for credit card gifts.

We’ll use your donations to change lives in the best way we can, and we'll be transparent in how your money is spent in our annual reports
